ABOUT US

The Phoenix Foundation of Nevada is a 501(c)(3) Non-Profit Organization founded by Zachary and Amber Gray, both dedicated to helping youth aging out of foster care transition into independent living. Zachary, a committed case worker, and Amber, an educator with 16 years of experience working with at-risk youth, began this journey after a pivotal experience with a young man we will call John.

John, who had aged out of the foster care system, struggled to navigate life on his own. Living in a group home with only a small government stipend, John formed a trusting relationship with Zachary. After being discharged from his fifth group home, he stayed with Zachary and Amber, receiving the love, care, and guidance he needed. Under their mentorship, John managed his medical needs, addressed his mental health issues, secured state identification, opened a checking account, and enrolled at UNLV with dreams of becoming a journalist.

Unfortunately, John chose to return to a group home, stopped taking his medication, and disappeared, never making it to the fall semester at UNLV. This experience underscored to Zachary and Amber the critical need for consistent support and a nurturing environment for youth aging out of foster care.

Driven by compassion and a deep commitment to fill this gap, Zachary and Amber founded the Phoenix Foundation of Nevada. Their goal is to provide a stable and supportive environment where young adults can learn essential life skills, manage their wellness and healthcare, and pursue their education—ensuring no young person faces these challenges alone.
